Driven by its purpose of safeguarding life, property and the environment, DNV GL enables organizations to enhance the safety and sustainability of their business through delivery of services and software. They conduct their business in the maritime, the oil & gas, and the energy industries. They operate from more than 400 offices in more than 100 countries, and have around 16,000 employees. Annual revenues are around NOK 22b (2014).
DNV GL’s SESAM software package is recognized as one the most advanced and comprehensive software systems for structural and hydrodynamic analysis available to the offshore and maritime industry.
In 1999, DNV GL Software, the unit responsible for software within DNV GL, decided to enter a collaboration with Ceetron AS to develop a customized post-processor for SESAM. The new software named Xtract, was designed as a replacement for SESAM Viewer and SESAM Postfem. The objective with the product was to offer to the market a high-performance general purpose model and results visualization program for animation and presentation of results from various hydrodynamic- and static/dynamic structural analyses. The graphics were to support highly interactive work sessions and a database browser to support navigation of the super-element hierarchy, result cases, result attributes with components (e.g., displacements, stresses), and sets.
Based on a product specification from DNV GL, Ceetron developed Xtract using GLview 3D Visualization API as basis for this new product. Methodologically, the project was based on a rapid prototyping / SCRUM-like approach. The work started in 1999, as a project fully conducted by Ceetron, and the first GA release took place in September 2000. SESAM Xtract has since been updated on a yearly basis with the 2016 update in the works.
In 2015, DNV GL entered a new joint R&D project with Ceetron, Migris and Transvalor, to develop next generation web-based visualization technologies.
